On Daniels Parkway, the Work Zone Is Shrinking Toward I-75

October 29, 2026

Starting Monday, Nov. 2, the county work on Daniels Parkway west of I-75 begins to wind down. FDOT's interchange at Exit 131 doesn't follow it. Lee County will cut the ribbon on the Three Oaks Parkway Extension at 10 a.m. that day, and the new road opens to drivers after the ceremony. A few miles away, the I-75 at Daniels Parkway interchange rebuild has an expected completion of summer 2028.

That leaves a corridor finishing in pieces, west to east. If you drive Daniels to get to the airport, JetBlue Park, or the Publix at Fiddlesticks, the segment you'll be stuck in by spring is likely to be smaller and closer to the interstate than the one you've been dealing with since early 2026. Below is the corridor in driving order, starting at Six Mile Cypress Parkway and heading east.

Six Mile Cypress to Powers Court: night paving through Nov. 7

The westernmost work is the shortest. Lee County DOT and Preferred Materials began milling and resurfacing Daniels Parkway from Six Mile Cypress to near Powers Court on Sunday, Oct. 18. Crews work Sunday through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. The county expects the milling and resurfacing to be done by Nov. 7, 2026, though weather can push that back.

If you mostly use Daniels during the day, you may never see this crew. It matters because it's the first part of the corridor scheduled to close out, and it ends right where the larger county project begins.

There's also a separate permitted job on Daniels by Thompkins Contracting. It covers asphalt, sidewalk, curbing, and drainage work, with lane closures limited to nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., and it's scheduled through Nov. 30, 2026. Expect a few more weeks of overnight cones even after the resurfacing crew leaves.

Powers Court to Danport Boulevard: eight lanes built, three per side in use

This is the stretch where the change will show most. The Three Oaks Parkway Extension project included widening Daniels to four lanes in each direction. It also added a new signal at Powers Court and Apaloosa Lane and dual left-turn lanes on every leg of the Daniels and Three Oaks intersection.

As of the county's Roadwatch update for Oct. 22 to 28, Daniels is open to three lanes each way. The outside eastbound and westbound lanes are still closed for construction, but the outside right-turn lanes are open. In its Oct. 19 release, Lee County said Daniels has been widened to eight lanes from Danport Boulevard to Apaloosa Lane and Powers Court. All eight lanes open only after final paving and striping.

So the pavement is already down. What you're waiting on is the paint and the final lift of asphalt, and the county hasn't given a date for that. The original contract called for completion in mid-2028. The county now calls the project "substantially ahead of schedule," with final completion set for early 2027. That's more than a year earlier than the contract date, on the busiest county-run stretch of the corridor.

The new road south: Three Oaks crosses the Fiddlesticks Canal

On Monday the extension opens. It carries Three Oaks Parkway across the Fiddlesticks Canal to Daniels Parkway. Lee County describes it as finishing the Three Oaks corridor as a major arterial and a north-south alternative to I-75, running from Daniels south through the Village of Estero and the City of Bonita Springs into Collier County.

Here's what's being built, per the county:

  • A four-lane divided road with two 11-foot lanes in each direction
  • A 5-foot bike lane and a 6-foot sidewalk on each side
  • A median that varies from 14 to 18 feet wide
  • A new roundabout at Fiddlesticks Boulevard and Old Fiddlesticks Boulevard that provides access to the Publix shopping center

WINK News reported the same opening date and the same caveat. The road opens after the ribbon cutting, but construction continues in the area. That includes restriping the Three Oaks Parkway and Palomino Lane intersection at Daniels.

The opening also changes some traffic patterns from this summer. Since Aug. 3, southbound Three Oaks traffic has used the inside lane of the new southbound lanes, and Cody Lee Road and the new southern Publix entrance have been right-in, right-out only. Those rules still applied in the Oct. 22 Roadwatch, which also said Phase 1, the southern segment, remains closed. If you've worked out a route around the Publix entrances over the past three months, plan on new signs and new turn options after Monday.

The county's invitation for the ceremony also has a nice local touch. Lee County encouraged people in nearby neighborhoods to walk or bike to the event, which will be held on Three Oaks Parkway south of the new Fiddlesticks Boulevard intersection. Anyone who can't attend can watch on the county's YouTube channel.

Danport Boulevard to Treeline Avenue: FDOT's job, on FDOT's clock

East of Danport, the timeline changes. The county's eight-lane section ends at Danport Boulevard, and that's where the state's work begins. FDOT's I-75 at Daniels Parkway interchange project covers I-75 just north and south of Daniels, plus Daniels itself from east of Danport Boulevard to west of Treeline Avenue. The two agencies' projects meet at one intersection and finish more than a year apart.

FDOT is converting Exit 131 into a diverging diamond interchange. The work includes rebuilt ramps, new signals at the ramps, pedestrian and bicycle accommodations through the interchange, and resurfacing of Daniels through the project area. Lee County's Oct. 22 Roadwatch lists these current conditions:

  1. Crews are working on earthwork and lighting.
  2. Lane closures, when needed, run 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. on I-75 and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Daniels.
  3. Northbound I-75 has shifted slightly toward the median, and the northbound on-ramp is on a temporary ramp.
  4. The speed limit is reduced through the project area.
  5. Pedestrian access has moved to the south side of Daniels.

FDOT's district Roadwatch shows how a full ramp closure works on this project. When crews closed the northbound I-75 on-ramp overnight on Oct. 15 to install barrier wall, drivers were told to keep going west on Daniels, make a U-turn at the nearest signal, and use the loop ramp from eastbound Daniels to get onto northbound I-75. Expect that kind of overnight detour to come back through 2028, posted in the weekly updates.

Treeline Avenue: a smaller job due by year's end

Just past the eastern edge of FDOT's work, Lee County is rebuilding the Treeline Avenue approach between Jetport Loop and Heartwood Boulevard. The project turns a northbound left-turn lane onto Daniels into a through lane and a northbound through lane into a second right-turn lane. It also adds ADA improvements at the Daniels and Intercom Lane intersections and upgrades the signals. Work started in May 2026, and the county estimates completion in late 2026.

Add it up and every county project on the corridor is due by early 2027, from Six Mile Cypress to Treeline. Only the state's interchange in the middle runs longer.

Two spring trainings inside the work zone

JetBlue Park is east of the interchange, so the long timeline matters most in late February. The Red Sox 2027 schedule lists the first home game at JetBlue Park on Feb. 19, against Northeastern. With FDOT's completion expected in summer 2028, the interchange will still be under construction during the 2027 spring training season and again in 2028. If the county's early-2027 finish holds, the stretch west of Danport could be fully striped for the first of those seasons.

Southwest Florida International Airport has its own construction calendar. The Lee County Port Authority's September 2026 capital projects report showed, with figures through August 2026, the Phase 1 checkpoint consolidation at 69% schedule complete. It showed Phase 2, which includes the new Concourse E and terminal work, at 68%, and the Phase 2 terminal roadway changes at 66%. If you're driving someone to RSW this season, you could pass two road projects on Daniels and then hit terminal-roadway work at the airport.
